What say ya'll about this TV?

LG 32CS560 32" 1080p LCD TV - 16:9 - HDTV 1080p $364 w/ free shipping.

LG 32CS560 32" 1080p LCD TV - 16:9 - HDTV 1080p | Overstock.com

I've done a bit of reading about LCD vs LED but have not come away with any concrete understanding as to which is better in this size and this price range. I do know that LG's are well rated. Also there are two reviews, on this website, that give this TV a 5 star rating.

I am trying to buy a TV for my Daughter and have it shipped to Tejas with minimal shipping costs and no sales tax.

Ideally I would like to see the picture quality before I buy but I do not want to take the time to go visit stores. I know that when I walk into Costco, with all their TV's blaring, you can quickly see that some pictures are much better than others.

I think 1080p is relatively overrated in that screen size. I no longer have the LG , but I have seen it in person and I would be fine with that TV as well.

Also is LED preferable over LCD? I saw some user reviews on the Vizio's and they did not do well compared to the LG's. I think that Samsung is another well rated TV?

Oops, I saw the answer to my question. You like the LG over the Vizio?

The $299 TV was an LG. Basically the 720p LED version of the TV you were looking at. It is HDTV, and quite frankly in that screen size many people cannot tell the difference between 1080 and 720.....especially since most things aren't broadcast in 1080 to begin with. I like Samsung and LG a lot. I am not a huge fan of the Vizios in that size, just noticed the price point. I prefer the picture of an LED over an LCD, but that is personal preference. LED is will usually be brighter and more colorful.

I think you will be satisfied with the LG. I have a similar LG but 46" and have been asked by guests if it is 3D....the picture is that good.

I believe and LED is good if you don't have a room where the tv resides that is extremely bright. It is my understanding that an LCD wont have a bunch of glare in a bright room, you may get glare with an LED. That's just what I've read within this forum.... I have friends that have Samsung and Vizio. They both seem to be happy with each.

Just as I said, when I had my plasma, I have never had any problems with glare in my brightly lit living room.

Re: Lcd tv?

at that size you will not notice much of a difference between 720p and 1080i .......most television programs are not broadcast in 1080p yet unless you are ordering PPV or watching blu-ray's vizio makes a great budget tv but I do believe LG has a better picture IMO. LED does give you a more "life like" image......as far as life expectancy LCD lasts twice as long as plasma on average and LED is suppose to last around twice as long as LCD but even with a plasma you would have to watch tv for 9 hours a day every day for 9 years before you reach the average life expectancy so really that is not as much of a factor as most people speculate ....more of a sales pitch just to get you to upgrade. Plasma televisions do use more power consumption so that tends to be a drawback and they produce quite a bit of heat. I have a 50" vizio plasma that has a great picture and still does for being almost 6 years old, a sony 42" LCD that has a beautiful picture that is a little more defined than the vizio, a 60" sony LCD that has the best picture out of all of my tvs, a 32" samsung LED that even makes SD look HD, a 32" sharp LCD that has an ok picture, and 2 19" emerson LCD's on my boat that have decent pictures. you basically get what you pay for when it comes to brand but even for a cheap tv vizio makes a good product. The biggest selling point i can find about LED is the compact thin design that looks a lot more aesthetically pleasing when hanging on the wall. Just my $.02

Re: Lcd tv?

Thanks all, for your input. Nearly 4 years ago, on the spur of the moment after a breakdown of a bedroom CRT TV, I bought a 32" Vizio LCD, HDTV from Costco for $400. The TV is fine but it gets very little use.

Four years later, my thoughts were that there must be some changes in the TV world that were worth examining. Add to that, I didn't need to have a TV delivered to my Daughter before the end of May, so I figured that I would take some time and see what was current.

I ended up ordering the 32" LG LED HDTV from Amazon. It was $274 Shipped. My daughter should be overjoyed as she and her husband are pinching pennies and doing without after many years of school (now finished).

For that price and LG's reputation I think you made a good decision. Give an update after you get it.

Yes, good choice on LG ( Life's Good ) remember, what you see from a TV is only as good as the signal that you put in...

LED is the future, but nowadays, don't expect a long life out of these sets.

They're meant to last 5 years now, that's all.

That's pretty sad. These widescreens aren't really that cheap if on average you have to buy one every 5 years... Our throwaway society is staying strong.........

Re: Lcd tv?

The only difference between LCD and LED TVs is the backlighting. Otherwise they're identical.

LCDs use fluorescent tubes. LEDs use LEDs.

They both use LCD panels to create the image.

There's a lot of confusion about this. Someone I know said she bought a TV at the store because they told her it was LED. When she took it home it said "LCD" on the box so she returned it (even though it was an "LED") :highly_amused:.

I have to explain that all the time at work when we roll the TV box out of the warehouse and it says LCD/LED on the side and the customer says "I thought you said it was an LED". Although they are both LCDs with different lighting, the finish on the screen is often very different and will interact with light in different ways.

The claim is that the half life is 20,000 hours.....so at 8 hours a day (might be high/might be low depending on how you use the TV) that would be 6.9 years. It is very hit and miss in my experience. I have an LCD that is 8 years LCD in my bedroom, but I have also had one that had the panel go out after 2 years. Everyday I see a handful come back that are only 2-3 years old, but I have seen the opposite too.
