Hi,

I'm looking at getting a small motor, either electric or gas, for an 11' kayak with transom. It can take an electric up to 55 lbs of thrust. Is there an equivalent gas version, or would they be far to powerful, ie., Honda 2hp.

TIA, Kreestos

I don't have the formula handy, but I once calculated that my 30 lb thrust trolling motor produced 0.48 HP. If you got the absolute smallest gas powered outboard (1.2 HP?) you would still have to run it at half throttle to make it apply only 50 pounds of thrust.

you will LOVE the 2horse honda, great MOTOR! aircooled, I used to have one I had it for 2 weeks then gave it to a camp, becuase I was bad and J.B told me to give it to them :) . its a great motor, runs hard uses no gas (joke) and gues what! NO WATER PUMP~ it would be a little less then a 55 pound thrust. but less wirght!

I rum a 340 horse motor on a boat rated for 150 so what do I know...
Man that little Honda is the neatest thing I've seen in a while... Really don't think it will be a problem... Actually when you think about how light it is and the fact that you won't be putting that big as battry in you boat... think the load factors will all work out in the end...
Again I **** nere took the little Honda home just to hang on the wall somebody put a few hours of thought in to that little dude..
