Lazy Johnson won't wake up?

my 1987 johnson 60hp. would only run for about 15-20secs. then quit? replaced VRO pump.. now runs on trailor, can rev it up. no problem! but in the water....when you try to take off it won't go???? can someone please give me some schooling on this problem??THANKS VERRY MUCH!!!!

Sounds like you may have some fouled carburetors or link and synch issues.My suggestion if you are going to attempt repair yourself is to get a manual specific to your engine.There are a number of things that could cause this very symptom.The most common is fouled carburetors.

an OB can run on just a few cylinders on the muffs<br />and sound great. sounds like it's not firing on <br />all cylinders to me. remove plug wires one at a<br />time. if it doesn't change how it runs at all,<br />that's a dead cylinder. pick up a manual and it<br />will explain testing in more detail.<br />good luck,<br />M.Y.

Hi Fishin'<br /><br />I'm definitely no expert, but it sounds like a fuel problem to me. I'd start by giving your carbs a thorough cleaning and check your fuel line/connections for air leaks.<br /><br />Good luck.<br /><br />Brew
