Hi all,
I'm looking at buying a used 04 Bayliner 195 bowrider. This would be my first boat. I was reading the stupid human tricks forum and people were making fun of people trying to launch and recover boats with cars/small suvs built on sedan frames that weren't capable of it. So now I'm wondering if my 07' Endeavor is capable of doing it comfortably, since from what I've found, it's built on the Galant frame and is not a true SUV design -- max towing 3500lbs. It's a 3.8L V6, 2WD with factory tires. Net weight of the boat without trailer is 2091 according to nada.

Thanks for any tips
Pat

I think the Endeavor is a little too small for that boat, it may have ramp troubles or it might even suffer damage with the boat on the back. Remember tow ratings are with a full tank of fuel and a 150 lb driver, any additional weight in the vehicle lowers the towing capacity by the same amount.
Plus pulling the boat out of the water is tough on driveline parts. I'd think twice, Mitsu's aren't the roughest toughest vehicles around, they are really passenger duty. If you only tow a little and use a gentle paved ramp it won't cause as much trouble.

It'll be fine. We used to launch our 195 with a Kia Sorrento and coincidentally enough had an Endeavor for a couple weeks one summer as a loaner car - which also worked fine.

You are at least 1000lbs under your tow rating, you don't need a dually to pull a 2500lb boat

How do you figure?

2100 + trailer + fuel + gear = 3k+ but still within the limits of that vehicle, although that tow rating probably requires trailer brakes.

Bayliner 195 on the factory trailer with 25 gal of fuel weighs just about 2600lbs - I own one.

this is a topic that comes up often.

can you? yes.

should you? no. you are going to tear it apart towing a boat, especially retrieving. you are going to serverly shorten the life of the vehicle. pulling the boat up the ramp is going to get tough too, especially with stock tires.

besides, would you trust those tiny brakes during a panic stop at 65mph when some a-hole pulls out in front of you?

sure, its under the tow rating. but lets use common sense here!

Yes you could do it with ease. I pulled my 4000lb boat/trailer for a season long and short distances with a lesser, fwd, lower hp/tq, older, well worn minivan with a 3500lb capacity. I was over the tow limit by a mile especially when you add in the weight of 4 passengers, gear and gas in the van. The problem is even with your lighter load you are right at the margins and in my case beyond them for safety. I wouldn't do it again and finally wised up and bought a proper tow vehicle. The auto air suspension in the minivan compensates for the tounge weight so it tricks you into thinking it is a smart thing to do plus minivans are so long and heavy they don't get steered by the boat. I'm not quite sure what an Endeavor actually is. I assume it's a crossover?

You will be able to pull and launch the boat perfectly fine, don't listen to any of these "towing" experts.

You'll find in the online boating world if you're not pulling a canoe with a F450 you'll be called an idiot.

Does that mean my 3500 is overkill for my jon boat? D"oh! Don't tell my wife! Just kidding. I tow my boats with a 1500 Z71. We boat guys just like trucks and boats. We do tend to go a tad overboard on both.
