Launch or not? Next time I'll wait.

Went to launch the boat yesterday.

One guy retrieving his boat, and one guy that looked like he was going out.
I'm in the truck waiting and I see the guy that looks like he's leaving, push his boat around the dock to the 2nd stall. Right behind the guy that's pulling his boat out.

So I figured he's being nice and I pull up and back the boat in and my son ties it to the dock.
As I'm ready to pull the trailer out, I see the guy walk past me and give me the biggest stink eye I've ever seen. (the other boater still haven't pulled his boat out). I parked and get into the boat, my son is clipping his life vest on and I start the engine up and then I see the guy back his trailer in. The end of his trailer is close to my boat. By now the other boater has left, and his stall he pushed his boat in is now free. Could have just backed into that stall and retrieve normally. but backed his trailer where I was. (now he has to move his boat back to the 1st stall).

When he walks down the dock I said I was sorry and thought he was going out. He just gave me a mean look and said what ever.

Don't know what to make of it..

My dad used to say, "Some people would kick if you hung them with a new rope."

He was a bit cynical. I think it helps.

There are many that think they own the ramp. You just intruded on his property.;)

Some people just have no manners, they don't know how to accept an apology.

I'm just glad to hear that I'm not the only one that had ramp trouble in WI this weekend.

I pulled in to a small lake today that I go to often. ( one to three times a week) As I arrive there are three cars backed in to the boat ramp. Probably 8 or 9 people (racially hmneutral) all standing there, fishing from the boat ramp. I ask nicely if they could move to allow me to launch the boat, but they just kind of look at me. I decided that it is easier to just leave them to their devices and go back tomorrow.

Went to a different lake and had a great day!
Hope it does not affect your weekend!

Cheers. A Bad day on the lake still beats a good day at work;

Wish I had your attitude. If non-boaters were blocking the launch I needed to use, the tow chains would come out, and I'd move their vehicle for them, whether they like it or not..

That's also when you let them know that you have ALL of their license plate #'s and if ANYTHING is different wehen you come back in, they WILL be getting a visit from the cops. Take pictures of your vehicle/trailer, and theirs and if possible, them as well.

Yeah but.... unless you got pics of them actually doing the damage what good are they ? Legally ? There is no PROOF that THEY slit all your tires, smashed your windows and threw your trailer in the lake...

Yeah, just wait. Do a second or third go-round on your truck, trailer, and boat... the people that get in too big of a hurry to launch their boat are the ones that leave the plug out or the rear tie-downs on.

I launch by myself 95% of the time and always let other folks come and go ahead of me.... sometimes it makes for some very good entertainment! ;)

Some people are just rude to begin with. That guy probly does that with all kind of stuff in life. I personally like to spend as little time as possible on the boat ramp. Id rather be out fishing in solotude or on my way to and from home.

This is one of the rare instances when I would have called the authorities, if they refused to move their cars after I 'splained it to them. But I would have done it remotely.

Re: Launch or not? Next time I'll wait.

I had a similar situation yesterday.

My buddy dropped me off at the dock and then motored away while I went to get the truck/trailer. One of the 4 launch ramps was open, so I backed the trailer into the water there. I get out of the truck and stand on the dock next to the trailer to help guide my friend on to the trailer. As I'm waiting, some guy in a boat starts yelling at me that he was going to use that spot. He doesn't have his truck or trailer yet, and there are spots open at the courtesy dock. I guess I was wrong for backing my trailer into an open spot. His truck/trailer was still nowhere to be seen when we pulled the boat/trailer out of the water.

Was he boating alone? Based on your description, it sounds like he was. If so, how else do you get you boat and trailer together? By definition, either the boat or the trailer must be there first. Fortunately, where I boat, the boat ramps are not too heavily used, but I tie the boat off at the dock, RUN for my vehicle and trailer, and get the boat on the trailer and out of the way as fast as possible. Because I boat alone, it does take me a little bit longer to get things together, but we tend to get along around here.
