Hey guys, names Jayson. New to the forums, liking what I see!

I need a few questions answered :).

So I picked up a late 60s 1250 125 hp inline 6 merc.
I had it running to be sure i didnt have a dud
and noticed I was getting some arcing across the sparkplug wires. So I got a kit to changed out the wires. I put new plugs in, changed fuel lines. And now it doesn't want to stay running. So the I thought maybe I'll clean the carbs and maybe do the fuel pump diagrams.I got down to the point of taking the carbs off and I noticed that the pully for the distributor was ultra loose. It has all kinds of play, up down side to side.

So I was wondering is this suppose to be like this?
And if not can I fix it.

There are 2 bearings in that assembly that have gone bad; the exploded view shows them TBOLT-distributor2small.jpg
These instructions tell how to remove the shaft but you must 1: Not to try to remove the rotor it's molded on 2: Be very careful when removing the disk or you can break the trigger coil off the housing (the disk is between the housing and trigger coil), I would put the unit in a vise with the jaws loosely closed around the rotor and then tap on its shaft . Use a sharp object to mark the side of the disk that faces the rotor with an "R" before disassembly. TBOLT-distributor-instrucsm.jpg

I think it's still a bearing issue, in your case you undo the 4 bolts that hold the distributor to the adapter, then remove the adapter from the motor and check bearing(s)

I think the serial nr. will help with answers; it's located on the clamp bracket or on the block.
