Can anyone tell me what the last year for the smaller mecury 2 stroke engines was. particularly 20 hp. I live in an area where all the lakes are limited hp and searching for a 20 hp if anyone has any leads.

Re: last year for the mercury 2 strokes

I'm going to guess 2004 or 2005. I bought a 2003 20 hp 2-stroke that year, and a year old Merc 9.9 (that was a 2004) in 2005. I remember being surprised when very shortly thereafter, the 2-strokes disappeared from the Mercury website. I thought at the time that I was investing in a long-term well tested technology. Shows you why I'm not a good business man!

Thanks for the info Lakelover. It will help narrow my search down online while trying to find a motor

Don't be afraid of late 90's vintage models either. IF you find a clean one, it will last you a lifetiem with care. I have a 96' 15hp and a 99 8hp. Just rebuilt the carb on both in one afternoon. Very nice motors to work on and the shift in the tiller is IMHO the BEST inovation in small outboards in the last 20 years!

I've never heard anyone say that before. I thought it was a good idea until I used one for work. Then the word that came to mind is "dangerous". Of course, that was due to my not being familiar with them and having to run it across small fast rivers during flooding conditions. I prefer the gear shift up front on the tiller, but separate from the throttle grip.
