Hi guy,

i'm new in boating and I wanna buy a small boat.

Here's what I want to buy : Larson 170 1990, which is powered by a Mercruiser 3.0l 135 hp, 4 valves.

Here's the list of what the last owner did :

change power trim motor (2007)
change rekay box (starter, trim, etc) (2007)
change power control and wire (2008)
change all belts (water pump, alternator, etc.) (2009)
change alternator (2009)
big tune-up (wire, distributor cap, etc) (2009)

what do you think about that boad. It is really clean and motor look in perfect shape. 1990 is it too old for a boat?

for now, i can have it for 9000.00 CAD

any comments will be appreciate

thanks!

Like most people on here, I have a 1974 boat so id say no on the to old.
The best thing i can say as to the boat your looking at is,
Take it out on the water, have the owner driver you around the lake. then you driver it to see if you like. then, take it to a mechanic to see what he says.

Thanks for you answer.

The boat is currently in a garage and we can't go on the water for a test drive. But I have a 30 days warranty and they will start the engine in the garage...

They took it in a trade from a buyer of a new boat.

So for the price, what do you guys think about that?

9000 in Canadian is 8325 USD. Seems kinda pricey to me. I have an 1987 Larson 19' 180HP 3.7L bowrider in cherry condition. I overpaid @ $6500, but that is just how the market is around here (middle Wisconsin). Someone offered the guy 7000 but I was first and he was honest (another virtue of being a Wisconsite).

Regardless, take it for a test drive. I can't emphasize that enough. I don't get why - they said they can haul it from their garage to a body of water, which should be in their backdoor (most boat dealers are on water? Seems sketchy....

If you haven't seen the quote on this forum yet, BOAT also stands for "but only another thousand."

That price seems way high for an almost a 20 year old boat with the base powerplant in it. I can't see that being worth more than $5000(US) in my area and that's assuming it's IMMACULATE.

WAAAAAAAYYYY over priced, this was not a top of the line boat to begin with, let alone at 20 years old. I would not even pay half of that...

Waaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy over priced. I just bought a couple weeks ago a 1992 Four Winns 180 Freedom 18ft with the 3.0L in good shape for $4000 US. Good interior, good exterior, runs good.
