I have a 1958 evinrude lark started idleing really high and either dies out or dies when I go to put it in reverse or forward. Used to idle ok. Thinking something wrong in the carb?? Maybe fuel pump?? Where should I start?
You can disconnect the line that goes to the carb, spin it over and see if the pump pumps fuel. If you pump the primer bulb while the engine is running it will bypass the pump.
Ok, spark plugs do need replaced, but fuel pump is pumping.. Bad news is only about 40 on the compression on each. Is there anything i can do to make compression better? Or does it need worked on?
40psi is way too low for that motor. My 1957 Lark runs 120psi on both cylinders. Maybe a blown head gasket? As long as one cylinder has stripped out, I'd look for a replacement head.
was afraid of that. One hole has been resized. Im looking into how much it can be fixed for.. Sounds expensive. I know parts are out there, but I dont know much about small motors. Thanks for advice..
