I have an aftermarket emergency cutoff switch to install. I've attached a copy of the electrical diagram. I'd like to know, do I want my switch to complete the circuit for run? Or do I want it to break the connection to run?

The switch should complete the circuit to run and break the circuit when the lanyard is removed...at least that is how mine were.

That depends on whether you have a battery ignition or a magneto ignition. I/O's are battery ignition (require a battery in order to run). Therefore a kill switch much OPEN the circuit to kill the engine. Outboards are typically magneto engines and do no require a battery to run. These engines require that the kill switch CLOSE the circuit to kill the engine.
