Have a trip planned to Lake St. Clair and Mitchell's Bay July 7,2004. Any and all advice would be appreciated. I've never been there. I've got a Lake Map and know it's flat and shallow and have gotten some advice from another site instructing me to plan on using tubes, tubes, and more tubes. Thanks to all in advance.

What do you mean by "plan on using tubes, tubes, and more tubes". This is the lake I do 90% of my boating in and mostly from Mitchells bay. What are you coming down for vacation,fishing,diving... What kind of advice are you looking for. I can tell you the channel is shallow if you are leaving from mitchells bay marina

Sorry about being so vague. Want to fish for smallmouth and was told tubes are a great bait. Just wanted some answers from any other fishermen familiar with this Lake.

Tubes are a very good choice for the lake. If you have a gps:
N42 27.320 W082 52.100
this will get you to Ford Cove area smallies and large mouth abound in this area, can be painful to you and your boat if you don't come in slow many rocks on bottom in this area! Pretty much anywhere you go to in the lake that has any type of structure will hold smallies. Have fun and good luck!

Check out the web site at old swampy,Run by the bait store there (bass haven).I prefer to run out of Deerbrook Marina,If your coming through Windsor it would cut about 1 hr off your drive time if you decide to launch there. The lake is infested with smallies, and tubes are the way to go,Maybe see you on the lake.

JIm

I have not been to Lake St. Clair in about 10 years, but I love that lake. I used to spend summers on Lake St. Clair with my Aunt and Uncle. They lived in in Harrison Township right by Metro Beach. I do remember that the old "dumping grounds" in the lake was a prime fishing spot. It is marked on the charts.
