It had to happen sooner or later.
Yesterday afternoon 2 miles out, over 70 feet of water,in the middle of a dispersed group of kings that was anywhere between 10 and 50 feet down.
There was the hookup,a huge bang and it was.....a 4 pound largemouth bass.
Go figure.

That oughta be rare ain't it? a 4lbs LMB in lake Ontario. You were probably trolling too wasn't ya? I bet that dang thing have never seen a lure in it much sheltered life. Around here, I can swear the bass watch Bassmaster and the FLW tournaments. They know what's going on.

Yes,I was trolling.
I did some asking around today and some people in the know said that this is happening a bit more often than it used to.Mostly because the zebra mussels have made the shore a less hospitable place for bass.Nowadays they become more and more suspended in open water following schools of bait fish.
The same thing happened with rainbows who have by now become the huge great lakes steelheads that make it up to 25 and more pounds, mostly because of a very high protein diet.
I just hope that the bass will become big and fat too.
