I'm starting to plan a fall fishing trip (last week in October) to Lake of the Ozarks. Can anyone tell me how the bass fishing is at this time of year. Also can anyone recomend a nice resort on the northeast end (closest to Illinois border). Thanks in advance!

Re: Lake of the Ozarks

Large and Small mouth Bass will return to shallows as water cools. Night fishing is excellent in September and October. November is usually the best daytime fall fishing month for Bass. As far as a place to stay I would suggest http://www.tan-tar-a.com/ or http://www.4seasonsresort.com/ both are resorts and both are close to the east side of the lake. There are plenty of cabins and other ma and pop resorts throughout the lake. Take a look here http://www.lakelinks.com/lodging/lake_ozark.htm and http://www.funlake.com/

Uhh, there are no smallmouth bass in Lake of the Ozarks.<br /><br />Mallard Point and those manipulator listed are all nice resorts though a little pricey for my wallet.<br /><br />As for the fishing, concentrate around the outside ends of docks. If the water temps are still in the 60's, try throwing buzzbaits and Zara spooks on those dock ends. Particularily pay attention to the presence of shad in the coves and fish docks where the shad are hanging. A white jig with white trailer can also be good swimming along docks or brush along the docks. I'd also have a crankbait tied on as well hitting points in the back half of the coves.

Quick Lake O' the Ozarks question. Why is it so much more well known that Truman? They seem pretty similar to me?

Truman is a corp lake with not much action. Can't build on the water so it lacks the many resorts that Lake of the Ozarks has. Great fishing lake though.

Lake of the Ozarks was built by an electric company somewhere around 1927 or so. The property around Lake of the Ozarks was in private hands and was sold and developed into resorts, marinas, housing with private docks cool stuff like that. Truman was built by the Corps of Engineers for flood control. You cant development Corp land.

Huh? I caught a few last weekend.<br /><br />Are you sure you weren't catch some Kentucky bass? I've been fishing LOZ for 30 years and I've never caught a SM bass nor heard of anyone catching one.<br /><br /> http://www.mdc.mo.gov/fish/prospects/index.htm <br />The link is to MO. Dept of Conservation fishing prospectus page, scroll down to LOZ, there's no mention of smallmouth bass there.

Cart7, I'm not a avid fisherman. Now that I have seen the pcitures of the small mouth and the Kentucky Bass, I would have to conclude it was a Kentucky Bass.<br /><br />Why wouldn't LOZ have Small Mouth Bass?

LOZ has never had a smallmouth stocking program. Don't know why, the lake seems like it would be ideal for them but the Conservation Dept has never bothered.

Sad really, I remember that lake when it was a very nice "fishing" lake. <br /><br />Now Norfolk on the other hand is a peach.
