Hey all. I am hoping to put together a 2 family (8 - 10 people) vacation at LOZ next year and ideally, I'd like to rent a waterfront house with 2 slips or a good dock. Any tips on finding such a thing and how much can we expect to pay? More than likely, we'd arrive on a Sunday and leave on Friday.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks rental

We've talked of renting this place out. I think it would be a bit small for 10 people though. We have had as many as 12 here before though.

Prices will vary alot depending on where you want to be on the lake. We would probably be able to get $200 a day easily during the season.

any idea where you'd like to be on the lake? Or do you really have a preference? I like the Kapilana (www.kapilana.net) right inside the Grand Glaize Arm at the 19mm by the 54 bridge. on the weekends that whole channel is a no wake. Plus its like a mile from party cove :D

Re: Lake of the Ozarks rental

Thanks for the link. I'm not sure where we'd like to be. I guess aside from my first post, a little quiet water for watersports and a reasonable distance to a couple of on the water eateries. I have small children so we're not really looking for the party scene. My sister from Oklahoma is hoping to buy a pontoon boat in the spring and it will be a 20'-24' so we have to keep that in mind. And my boat is only a 20.5' bowrider. As far as cost, if we could keep the lodging cost around $200-$250 per day, that would be okay. That said, I'm told my bro-in-law did some work for a guy that has a lakefront place we may be able to use so we'll see how that shakes out.

My family rented a house with 4 bed, 3 baths, washer dryer plasma, 2 slips, really nice place. We were on a short time frame when we made the reservation, but we still found a place (but alot of the real nice places were taken). There are TONS of websites for water front rental, just familiarize yourself with the web and you will get an abundance of hits.
Nice lake, but we could never find any area's that were decent for water sports, to many HUGE cigarette boats, and cruisers.
Btw, if water sports is going to be a fair part of the trip, we rented a house boat at lake Ouchita in Arkansas. This lake was great, tons of room, could always find areas away from everyone. Best trip on the water.
Good luck, Dave

First, going to LOTO during the week is a very good idea.

Second, you could start looking here - http://www.livelakeozarks.com/

You may want to look at resorts that also have a pool. There are many that are family oriented.

Although there are many on water restaurants, Frankie & Louie's and Captain Ron's both have sand beaches for the little ones. Bear Bottom Resort has water slides and on Thursdays, boat-in movies. Just about all movies are PG. All these do have web sites.

If you are looking at a watersports area, go up the Glaize arm a couple of miles, and you are in State Park area where there is very little development. Although, there are several big coves (Chimney Cove is just one) where one can ski and/or tube as well.

Even though you may have a 20 foot bowrider, take it easy and you should be okay. Stay away from Holiday's. The lake can be brutal on small boats, although we see a bunch launched and I guess they do okay if they are experienced in heavy chop produced by the 40 to 60 foot cruisers.

thats for sure, I'd stay away from the main channel if you have a 20' boat. During the week it might be okay, but during the weekends, the chop is very very intense. The grand glaize arm (right by where I had mentioned 19mm of the main channel begins Grand glaize) I would also recommend, we are usually able to find calm enough water to do water sports, especially before the afternoon. The lake can be tons of fun, but it seems some of those huge offshore boats just don't pay attention and cruise 60 right in your path, so just be careful!!

Very true about the chop on the lake. I just pulled back into the slip after a little cruise. I started mm4 on the Niangua and cruised to Hurricane Deck and then to the Grand Glaize. I was doing about 45mph through "Four Corners" when I hit chop that about put the whole boat airborne.

Addict, you mentioned the Glaize and watersports. Isn't the Grand Glaize "No Wake" from Memorial Day thru Labor Day? Or that weekends and holidays only? I just read the sign an hour ago and already I can't remember.

I can't help with the dates, but only a 1 to 2 mile section of the Glaize Armby the bridge is No Wake, once you get passed that, then it is wide open again. I do believe it is only weekends and Holidays during the summer.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks rental

Yes, I decided we'll go during the week after talking to a friend that co-owns a house there with his in-laws. He also told me about the resturants with the beach for the kids but he didn't mention anything about waterslides or a drive-in. That sounds like a good time. LOTO is not my first choice but it happens to be right in the middle between where I live and where my sister lives and I'd like to keep the drive time the same for both of us. I've only been on LOTO once before but it wasn't during the summer. As far as just boating, I'd prefer Table Rock or Mark Twain. Thanks for the advise guys. It sounds like there are a lot of options.

Re: Lake of the Ozarks rental

We go every year and stay for the week. We too have kids ( 4 and 7) and have found a place called Lakeview Resort in Sun Rise Beach, MO. The kids LOVE fishing and tubing ect, but also take advantage of the indoor and outdoor pools, playgrounds, game room, and swim pier. We get a waterfront cabin and the covered boat dock is less than 100 foot away from our balcony overlooking the lake. They have boat, jet flea, and ski equipment rentals as well as fuel at Bikini Pier. ( yes, some lil chick in a bikini fuels your boat in a bikini, lol) The water is always VERY CALM from about 7 PM to 11AM every day and usually stays 2 foot or less waves the rest of the day.

VERY CUTE!!!! Told my wife " PLEASE let her be at least 18" LOL Speaking of that. They had " Marine fuel". It has no alcohol in it? Never hear of it around here. Still, even on the water, it was $3.05 a gallon.

I'd say that none of the marina fuel has ethanol. And yes, they aren't the cheapest on the lake, but for me, they are the most convenient.

One thing that you may not know about - you can file for a fuel tax rebate and get the road tax amount back. Since I don't burn that much fuel, I never bother.

With a only a few tanks a year recently, it would only cover the tips to the gas dock girls.

Then again...that can add up as well.;)

See, now thats what I thought he ment. But he said alcohol. My vehicles run on diesel so Ive been out of the gas scene for the past 10 years. Im paying $3.07 a gallon for diesel, so $3.15 for gas ON THE WATER was kind of a pleasant surprise.
