If anyone went to Lake Mojave on Colorado river let us know about the dead carp...The news last night said there were a lot of dead carp floating up on the beaches..It was only carp and no other species...Strange...

Re: Lake Mojave dead carp...

Sounds to me like somebody used his boat in one of the Great Lakes and did NOT CLEAN the bilge or trailer. The probable reason is VHS (viral hemorrhagic septicemia)
This disease has hit the great lakes about 2 years ago and caused a lot of dead fish and some of the strictest bait fish transport regulations anywhere in the country.
You will have a lot of dead fish and real ugly stink because of it.
Please do not take any baitfish out of those waters to use elsewhere and do clean your bilge with bleach. It may help to slow down the spread of this ugly disease.

In Erie it did a job on the sheepshead. Terrible. Dead fish everywhere.

Sounds like what they had going on in Canada a year or two ago. I don't think it's VHS and don't worry, only carp will be affected if it's the same cause.

On the Toronto side there was a lot of trout and other game fish showing up dead...as well as carp and other bottom feeders. It was big news around here.

Re: Lake Mojave dead carp...

Was there this weekend. Still some dead carp in the coves and a few floating out on the lake. The rangers at Katherine's landing said they haven't heard the results of tests taken and guessed it may be from a lack of oxygen from algae blooming. They said it has happened at this time of year for a few years.
