We spend most of our time boating at Lake Powell and other Lakes in Utah, but have decided to go to Lake Mead this year. We will be staying in Mesquitte and traveling to the Lake each day from July 18-21. Most of our time will be spent wakeboaring/playing on the water, but wouldn't mind doing a little exploring. Can anyone give me some information like where the best area to wakeboard is? How bad and maybe which way the wind typically blows? Any general information about the area or places to see? Do's and dont's. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey Jenk, welcome to the forum.

When you head out of Echo Bay Marina on the lake, if you go off to the right (south) around the hill you'll see, you will end up in a section of the lake that's protected from the winds, which typically blow from the north or south, and are heavier from the south in these monsoon days which you will be smack in the middle of.

We used to frequent a place to the north out of Echo on the east side called Glory Hole and Kline Cove.

You may also find that the lake is totally flat everywhere and you'll be boarding as soon as you are clear of the marina!

You'll be about 1 1/2 hours away if you come down the 169 through Moapa Valley. You should come through the Valley of Fire one day and do some sight-seeing. It's got some awesome scenery!

Yeah, I agree with 12v. Glory and Kline for nice soft sand. And like he said, with no wind, the whole damn thing will be good.

The wind will typically blow out of the South and will make the water just north of the "Islands" the best for you. If you get below there, watch the weather very carefully. The downwind run back won't be terrible, but it can get REALLY big on the south side of the Islands in a big blow. REALLY BIG!!!

On the Echo side below the Islands is a place called Cathedral Cove that's worth checking out. Not a whole lot more for scenery in the Overton Arm. It takes running all the way to Temple Bar or going west through the Narrows to see much.

P.S. Got your PM. Let's keep it here then it will be available for others. Welcome aboard!!!

Yep pretty much what they said. Echo has 2 launch ramps now, so there is and will probably never be a wait to launch/retrieve. And the 2nd ramp puts you on the lake past the breakwater so you are out of the no wake zone. hang a left go north if you want beaches/sand and hang a right if you want some protection/ sightseeing. Cathedral Cove that QC mentioned is pretty cool, you can anchor or float in there and swim. there will almost always be a few other boats in there as well. all my favorite beaches are gone right now due to the rising water, so I dont have any current good spots to camp/hang out. In my experience, if weather is calling for 5-10 mph winds that is perfect. water will be calm but just enough air movement to be comfortable. Ill be there the weekend of the 16th, but only for friday and saturday. have fun out there!
