Re: Lake Isabella, California

My wife and I were visiting some friends in Tehacahpi a few months ago and went with them to the lake for a few hours. It's in a nice area and the lake was down quite a bit, but there has been a lot of rain there, so I'm sure the lake level has come up quite a bit.

If you go there, be advised the majority of the road up from Hwy.58 to the lake is only 2 lane, with a few passing lanes and not too much of 4 lane road.

There was a mountain festival going on when we were there, which was really fun. It's really a quite decent place, with all the amenities you would find on the flatlands, excluding "Wally World" and the like.

...Bob in Calif...

http://maps.google.com/maps?oi=map&q=Lake+Isabella,+CA

UPDATE..............

I talked with my buddy in Tehachapi this evening and he said the water level is now the highest it has been in years, so it looks like it will be a great spring and summer there.

...Bob in Calif...

The last time we were there, we went with our MH. The mesquitos were everywhere. We didn't stay too long. The lake itself was very nice the few times I fished there. On the east side of the lake at the dam is an RV park run by the BLM. It is free. One can camp there (boondock) for 14 days and then must leave for at least 7. There is a free dump station there also. Many people will launch their Seadoos and smaller boats from this location.
