I'm taking my family to Lake Cumberland this weekend for a week. We're taking out boat (Chris Craft 230 Sport Deck). However we've never been to Lake Cumberland and are requesting anyone with hints or suggestions for 1st timers going there .
We're staying in the Jamestown area south of Russell Springs. Would like to hire a fishing guide possibly - love to fish but not expert by any means. Will spend most of our time tubing, skiing and generally boating the lake - sight seeing. Recommendations on local fishing guides? Places to visit or things to do in that area of the lake? Great places to eat?

Thanks in advance

No idea on fishing....but you need to check out 76 falls.....head down to the dam, take a left and it's down that way somewhere....lol. It's been 10-12 years since I was there....very fun for an afternoon (or longer if you've got a houseboat).

Its a great time, the main part of the lake can be busy, check out lees ford marina for some food and drinks. Its a dry county BTW, so if you drink pick it up before you get there.

The Lake Cumberland water level was drastically lowered about five years ago to permit major repairs to the dam. I'm fairly certain 76 Falls is no longer accessible via boat.

Wow! I haven't been in several years. I knew the lake was lowered, but didn't realize that you couldn't get to the falls! I used to take a group of employees down on a houseboat trip. That was our favorite place to tie up. Not a good place for young kids though, the falls, that is (even though dad's love it)!

We stayed at Grider Hill over spring break and like stated the water level is way down, there still working on the dam. Don't bother trying to get to the falls theres nothing to see. We did stop at the Jamestown dock for fuel and bathroom break, service there was very good. Just across from them is the state dock also very nice. We did have dinner there and thought the food was also very good. All three docks had fishing guide services but we didn't inquire about them. The lake did get quite ruff on the weekend and made for an unpleasant ride in my bass boat. There are lots of coves off the main lake where people were tubing and having fun in smother water.
