Lack of Water out of Exhaust

Hello,

I seem to recall that I used to have more water coming out of the exhaust ports 1-2 years ago whilst flushing on ear muffs.

I just noticed the other day that hardly any water is coming out of one of the ports (a slight sputter) and no water coming out of the second. This is during idle with the muffs on.

There is a good stream of water coming from the tell tale (water pump kit installed 6 months ago) and plenty of water coming from the exhaust down at the prop.

The engine is a 115HP Mercury Blueband.

Do I have a problem with water not coming out of the exhaust ports?

Thanks in advance....

I suggest you to check the thermostat. Test in a cop of warm water. It should open at 55 degree celsius.

Thanks G DANE.

Checking the thermostat sounds like a difficult job in getting out it of the engine?

Is this problem serious?

I believe your engine is an in-line six cylinder. I'm not sure they have thermostats.

Hi djohns19,

It is an in-live V6.

Any other ideas on what the problem might be (if any)?

Waldo99, those ports may be more to provide pressure relief for the exhaust while the lower unit is submerged. If you recently replaced the impeller, have a strong tell-tale stream at all speeds, and the cylinder head and exhaust plate do not get too hot to touch, you sound good to go.

those are idle ports. they wont have water out of them until the lower unit is submerged to give backpressure. Block off the exhaust thru the hub with your hand and water will come out.
