I have a 89 merc 45. I recently replaced a beat up 3 blade prop with a 4 blade, both 10 pitch. I also had the water pump replaced. Ran fine first time out after repairs. Sat in the garage for 2 months. Today had trouble at start up with idle. Then it never got over 2500 prm. Normally at full throttle I hit 5000 to 5500 rpms. I checked the plugs after, they were fouled. Replaced them and got the rpm's up to almost 4000. I'm unsure what to do next? I've got this on a 20 ft. pontoon.

Re: lack of power

I suspect fuel. Sitting two months without being treated is long enough to gum things up.

Replace all of the fuel with fresh and try again.

Re: lack of power

Thanks for the info. Actually it had only been 1 month that the boat and gas had sat. Over the past 6 years we've never had a problem with bad gas. Ran the boat today and same problem. Took it by a mechanic who looked at it and said the top carb wasn't pumping out gas and needs to be rebuilt.
