Lack of power ... duh

My 25 Johnson had a serious lack of power yesterday... difficulty planing, lugging, low top speed.
After floating around the river in my 3.2m inflatable for 45 minutes yesterday testing coil packs, isolating cylinder firing, examining spark plugs, changing fuel tanks, watching linkages with the cowl off.....dropping my pliers in the lake..

I headed for home- need to compression test I figured... something must be hurting in there.

looked behind me as I approached the dock... and there was my bow line

duh... it went over the front somehow without me noticing....and tied itself into a big knot....

lucky it stayed out of the prop

I don't see how dragging a line could affect a motor's performance, and if it got in the prop it would stop it cold.
Unless of course there was an anchor attached.

20 feet of 3/8 rope balled up under an 11 foot boat is just like an anchor

Just a long length of rope without a ball can act as a sea anchor.
