Hello,
I own a 140 Hp V4 from 1982, now I want to repaint it. All that´s left of the original writing is the Evinrude on boths sides of the hood. Does anyone know, if on the front and the back of the hood also were any writings? where can I either get a set of labels or just the 140 in plastic (the brand name is also a plastic thing, the 140 is just missing)
What kind of paint is recommended, any special ground, I want to paint the whole motor?
Thank you

Holger, what my buddy did is paint the motor and cover and have someone airbrush what you want on it and make it look nice. Then spray clear coat over the paint. You can also look on Ebay for stickers and just put them on when your done painting.....Hope this helps....Warren

Thanks warren, maybe someone here has an old set of the plastic writings (especially the "140" and sell it to me, it is not like a paper sticker but a real solid thing that is put into two small holes in the hood. Warren, what kind of paint did your buddy use, simply car paint??
Thanks Holger

Original paint is lacquer. Very easy to get a nice finish. If you taken the metal down to bare, use chromate primer, then 3 to 4 coats of lacquer applied in light coats.

Thanks,
where can I get this lacquer, is it (and the primer) also available in aerosol cans, because I would like to do it myself in the harbour (it does not have to look perfect) do you think it is possible to do it myself?
Holger

Sure, you can do it yourself. Tempo Products probably has the correct color and the primer in spray cans. Pick a warm day for the spraying (70 to 80° F) works fine or use a something (i.e. 500 W halogen shop light, etc.) to heat the surface to be sprayed so the paint will dry quickly without picking up airborne debris. Lacquer dries very quickly in warm conditions. Also, make sure it isn't too humid, or you may end up with a haze in the finish. Two to 3 cans will probably be plenty to do the whole motor.
Enjoy!

Hi Holger

I tried to get Tempo to ship overseas, but they wouldnt. I had to take the hood to a shop selling automotive spraypaint and get a colour similar. I´m in Denmark. Havnt figured out where to get good primer yet.

Hi again Holger.

I dont fish much, only hornfisk when the season is here. In the early eighties the Evinrudes were mid - metalblue like http://mitglied.lycos.de/old_omc/e_1974/seite_18_19.jpg - from 83 I think very light metalblue.

I think someone here will have colourcodes. How comes you speak Danish ?? Isnt Holger a Danish name ? I live in Southern Seeland.

Hi Dane,
I worked in Vejle at the hospital, as you know there is a big lack of doctors in denmark, furthermore I love seatroutfishing. I even have two danish names. Holger Jens, but I am 100% german.
bye Holger
