Knocking noise!

I have a little basstracker with a 1995 45hp merc jet on it. One day out on the water it just started knocking while in gear and little throttle. I don't knock on neutral at all only I forward. It sounds like it's in the lower end of the motor. the knocking is faster in higher rpms but it has no rythem to it. This is my first jet so I'm lost?

Not to be an *****. you have to understand how jets work. they are direct drive. the gate decides when you are in f/n/r. correct.? Pics of your motor including drive. is your water tell tale/pump working? jets are a different animal. believe me. and they hate weeds

I do understand all that and thats why I'm confused as to why its not knocking in nutral or backing up. Everything works fine no loss of power or vibrations just that knocking?

Carp if what you say is true. I would be looking at loose linkage with the gate. tiller or consol driven?
