Hi all, I'm in the process of replacing my shutters after running the engine without water to the muffs. (Details leading up to the need for replacement here: https://forums.iboats.com/threads/need-to-check-shutters…-any-tips.767319/#post-5866978)

Anyway, I ordered replacement shutters that supposedly were correct for my engine (serial number for Mercruiser 350 Mag: #0F747565). All the sites I consulted said part 807166A1 was correct for my engine.

While trying to replace the shutters tonight, I noticed the old shutters are larger than the new ones; the hinge on the new shutters is 3" while the old shutters have a 3 1/2" hinge.

I'm a bit worried because we're supposed to take the boat on a 2 week vacation leaving Saturday and if I can't get the correct shutters - and install them - by Thursday or Friday, we're not boating.

Can anyone help with a correct part number and maybe a place with super-fast shipping? The old shutters are on the left in the pic below. Thanks for your help?

Im coming up with same part number too …https://www.marineengine.com/parts/...v8-1996/0f601000-thru-0k001526/exhaust-system

even if you dont get them id think you are using the boat Or at least put the old one back in. On my old boat i replaced them after 20 plus years. It was obvious they had not been in working shape for years and never had an issue. Personally between that and volvo penta not using them im skeptical of if u really need them

It's a Mercruiser reman 350 Mag. It looks like there is another version of shutters: #807166A2. It matches the dimensions of the shutters I removed.

It looks like no one has Quicksilver shutters in that model that I can get soon enough. I've ordered some aftermarket shutters and I guess they'll have to do. I hate ordering non-Merc parts for something that is such a pain-in-the-a$$ to change, but I don't really have a choice...

Yeah, that's what I ordered and that's what doesn't fit. Thanks, Mercruiser, for your @#*&%$ parts system...

I've read of too many folks hydrolocking their engines to want to use the boat without working shutters. I'll just install some aftermarket shutters and hope for the best...

The reman engines are harder to find serials for . There was a similar situation on here a couple months back i think maybe fun times figured out how to get the reman engine parts to come up

this is a reman 5.7 parts breakdown that the 807166A2 shutters

https://www.marineengine.com/parts/...gen-repower-plus-gm-350-v8/all/exhaust-system

how many of those hydrolocks u read about are from shutters? many other reason for hydrolock but if you really needed them VP would have a huge hydrolock issue after they stopped using them …

if push comes to shove , run without them or try as best you can to service the old one's and get them working .
if you have to run without them , avoid sudden slow downs with heavy people in the rear of the boat .

FWIW , when i pulled the old ones from my 4.3 they looked like they had been stuck open since day dot.

So... I thought I was supposed to get my new aftermarket shutters yesterday, but it looks like USPS has done it again and lost the package... why did it have to be shipped it via USPS?

Anyway, it looks like my options are to run the boat without shutters or install the old ones, which at least looked like they might be somewhat functional at stopping massive water infiltration via the Y-pipe. I really don't want to have to do this job again, but I don't think I have any option beyond re-installing the old shutters. I don't like the idea of running without any shutters at all.

I hate the idea of having done all this for nothing, but I either put this thing back together or we don't have a boat for vacation. This really sucks.
