Killing engine with chock question

I have a 1970 9.8hp 110 merc. Phase maker ignition. Normally the kill switch kills the engine by UN GROUNDING the wire, from the stator, but for some reason mine does not work. The engine will continue to run no matter if the wire is grounded or not grounded. The old kill switch has been removed because it was no good and didnt function .

So, I installed a lanyard style kill switch, which is when I realized that the wire from the stator did not kill the engine. So I removed the lanyard switch. I now have a lanyard that I have run through the old kill switch hole and connected it to the choke lever. So now when I pull on the lanyard it closes the choke to kill the engine

Now to my question. I have not yet actually tried it yet because I am worried that at full throttle closing the choke could do damage to the engine? Do you see any problem with doing this?

Thanks

Tom

Doubt you will damage the engine with full choke at full throttle.

Much better for it than running out of fuel at full throttle
