Kicker height mounting

I have a 22' boat with almost no deadrise at the 19 inch transom. I bought a new Johnson/(Suz.) 9.9 4 stroke long shaft kicker, principally for trolling. I am designing a fixed transom jack plate with 6 inch setback. To get the motor to it's best operational height I am shooting for getting the cavitation plate about 1 inch under water when running at about 6 mph (about the max I might ever reasonably run it on the kicker).

My plan is to run the boat on my main motor about 6mph on the gps and to calculate the water height about 10" behind the transom with a yardstick attached to a piece of wood i cut to fit transom and well at plumb. I will leave myself about an inch on the plate to drop it if needed.

Is this a reasonable plan? Or are there any guidelines available to assist me with planning this?

Re: Kicker height mounting

sounds reasonable....but you could save yourself a lot of work and just get a kicker motor mount...you can get one that can adjust up and down that also can be lifted completely out of the water when running on your main motor....100-150...might save you some time

Save yourself some time and just make sure the water intakes are good and burried in the water. You're not looking at optimal placement for planing. Motor drag isn't going to factor in a bit as long as your hull isn't planing.
