Kicker bracket question.....

So, I picked up one of the Garelick model 71074 like this;

My intent is to hang a Nissan 5hp 4stroke as a kicker on my 19' Glassmaster. I plan to put it starboard, basically opposite the swim ladder. However, looking at it, with the motor having that "pregnated 4 stroke head", it doesn't look like there's going to be enough clearance to tilt the motor up when not in use. Any suggestions, outside of the obvious "buy a swing down bracket"? How big of a problem would it be if the kicker stayed in thte 'down' position? I'm sure there wouldn't be enough drag to effect the boat, but won't that put abnormal wear on the little outboard's lower unit, or am I over-thinking it?:confused:

Thanks,
E

How "un-wise" would it be to mount the bracket on top of some "extensions" to get the motor back the 2-3" it needs to be to allow for full tilt?

Re: Kicker bracket question.....

I had the Garelick up-down adjustable model on my outboard with 4-stroke kicker. I needed to cut spacers from StarBoard to gain enough clearance to tilt the motor. It was a pain in the butt to assemble it all, but it worked. To answer your question, there's no reason you can't move the mount back from the transom to give yourself the additional room.
