Re: Key West Boat
Seajet,

Welcome to iboats, the best boating site on the web! You won't find a lot of fluff here just straightforward advice and experience.

You should go to the motor section of the board and look through previous posts on 2 & 4 strokes. Or try the search function you will have a list of posts that will take you a week to read and will gain an education on what, why and why not about the two types of motors. And if you have specific questions float them out there, there are a lot of very knowledgeable mechanics, techs and boaters on this board.

A few general things are four strokes are cleaner (emissions -no smoke), quieter, more efficient (MPG), heavier and more expensive than two strokes.

Thats VERY general, it only scratches the surface and as you can see there is good and not so good in that description. Generally those are the five things most people think of first when comparing twos and fours.

I just bought my first four stroke (115 HP EFI); it was years of seeing them around and learning here and there before I bought one. I hadnt been in the market for a motor of that size in the last 10 years; they were around when I purchased my last two, two stroke motors. And the decision to go with a four now was a complicated one. The pros out-weighed the cons at this time for this boat and the particular motor I bought. If it were a different boat and or I needed more power I may have gone with one of the cleaner (greener) two strokes or even a standard two stroke.

There are a lot of variables, it depends on the boat, power requirements, where you are running the boat, how much you want to spend and on and on it goes. There is no one right answer and thats the first thing you need to know before you start your education and search for the right motor.

Stick around, ask questions and youll figure it out better to learn it here than from a salesman. Good luck!
