key switch push choke wiring

i'm putting a push choke key switch into an older power pilot with a choke switch lever under the key switch.
i think the lever choke was set up to be wired to the accessory pole. should i cut the older wire and just wire one purple from the motor to the choke pole? would i need to leave one of the purple accessory wires from the motor to the A pole even without anything else connected there?

let me know if i need to explain more or show a photo.
thanks,
andrew

The choke wire is purple with a white tracer on the new and on the old.

You need to remove the purple with white wire from the old toggle switch and attach it to the C post on the new switch.

You can tape off or remove the solid purple wire from the toggle switch to the old ignition switch.

There were two wires on the toggle switch; one from the ignition switch ACC to the toggle switch, the second to the harness and back to the choke.

You need to take the one that runs to the harness and connect it to the new switch at C.

Re: key switch push choke wiring

what is the cylinder that is under the ignition...is it a coil or an alarm?
it's got one purple wire to the A pole and the toggle was wired on top of that on the A pole as well?

The horn for the warning alarm system. A is the source for accessories 12V positive voltage when the ignition switch is in the run or start position.

When the push to choke switch is used, the 12V positive voltage for the choke is already inside the switch and the circuit is completed when you push in the key.

also, on the toggle switch there are 3 wires. two come from the motor, one connects to the top pole and one to the bottom pole. then the top pole has another wire that goes to A. would i take the one on the bottom pole coming from the motor and attach it to C?

and then what would i do with the other one coming from the motor?

ok..i think i need to keep the one going from the toggle to the A pole on the A pole for the alarm. will i need the alarm if i don't have the lanyard or tachometer?

Re: key switch push choke wiring

In your old configuration only one purple wire runs from the ignition switch accessories post to the toggle switch and it is no longer neccessary in order to choke. If the horn is wired to that, you will need to maintain that part of the circuit to have 12V for the horn.

The horn is for the overheat alarm and is absolutely necessary. In an overheat condition it is the only audible warning that you will have before your engine burns up.

i found the white tracer line....it was wraped all the way up to the pole.
so last question.. on the toggle switch there is a purple wire from the motor to top pole and then another from the top pole to the A pole. if i leave it like that is that open? i don't need to remove the wire and bypass the toggle?

Re: key switch push choke wiring

The solid purple wire may be open. It feeds accessory voltage to the terminal block and may or may not be used depending on your motor. It should be on post 3 on the terminal block at the engine.

You can leave the toggle switch where it is if you want, just don't leave the purple and white wire connected to it.

i mean is it open at the toggle?

now it's the terminal block-->toggle switch (top pole opposite purple/white wired pole)-->A

will that work or does it need to be terminal block--->A?

Re: key switch push choke wiring

The terminal block is screwed to the engine.

The choke toggle switch has positive voltage from the ignition accessories post A and if you flip the switch voltage passes through it.

Once you disconnect the wire running to the choke solenoid and connect it to the new ignition switch the toggle switch will have nothing to feed voltage to.
