My bro is a prof at UK. He received this excuse for not coming to class today ...

Dear Dr. .....

I just got back home a few minutes ago and I will not be able to attend today.

Some people here in Knott County decided to move their mobile home today. Well, their washer, refrigerator(with its door torn off)and a hot water heater are all laying in the creek beside their trailer. It looked like they came threw the wall. They tried to pull a 60 foot long 14 foot wide house-trailer across a one lane bridge (THE ONLY WAY OUT OF HERE) with a four wheel drive truck. It's back tires looked like they were about seven or eight feet up in the air where it was still attached to the trailer tongue. The trailer is sitting about 2/3rds off the bridge sideways ready to turn over in the creek. I left when a man standing there turned around and hit the school bus driver with his fist for asking how long they thought it would take to get it out of there. One of these days I am getting out of eastern Ky.

Re: Kentucky Excuses

Personally, I have had the same Grandmother die 5 times in the past year.:D

I started using that when professors didn't respond well to "I didn't feel like coming to class yesterday so I took my son to the park, but I'm over it now and here I am"

The reason there are so many people using excuses like the ones mentioned are because more universities have a mandatory attendance policy(not that an attendance policy in it self is a bad thing) but 2 unexcused absences can automatically drop your letter grade by one for an entire semester. So now you have students making excuses or even giving you the true reason they were absent. I'm not saying it's a good thing to skip a class, but some professors want a better reason than I didn't want to be here that day.

I have other responsibilities that I feel take precedence over school at times.

If the absence does not affect the quality of my work, and my performance as to meeting the requirements of the course are not affected then I see no reason why I should not be able to miss a class session occasionally. Other than the fact it trains you to be a good little monkey and do as you're told and make the appearance.

I had to take a day off from work when something bizarre happened in my neck of the woods, so I felt compelled to take a pick of the whole debacle (a snow plow truck stuck in the snow blocking our little country road. Front loaded, flipped over when he clipped the bank that was plowed with a full load.

I wonder if the student did the same.

Checked into a modest motel room in Kentucky one time. I called to the front desk to inform them that I had a leak in the sink:confused: The reply..."go ahead"
