Keeping stern drive in the water all summer

Hello,

A pretty basic question from a novice boater. My trim drive is acting up on my 1986 AQ131. The boat is at the cottage which is pretty remote from a repair shop. Is there any harm to the stern drive to just leave it down when I am not using it? Thanks.

It should be down, not up when stored.
Up is for traveling on the trailer, or shallow water.
