I took the starting battery out of my boat for the winter and would like to know if switching it with the battery in my car from time to time over the winter is a good way to keep it charged.
I will buy a charger if necessary but it seems that the 80 amp alternator in my car will give it a god charge. Also, if I do buy a charger what type 6 amp,1o amp, dual amp? Thanks

It'd be worth it to me to buy a trickle charger. Hook it up overnight once a month, and don't fool with battery swapping. ;)

Now that's dedication! ;)
I agree with Curmudgeon. Trickle chargers can be had for less than the price of a new Group 24 battery. Some of the new trickle chargers also function as jump starter. Look into the Xantrex Powerpack... it serves for a multitude of uses.

Oh btw, you may know this already but make sure you don't store it on a concrete surface and check the level of water in the battery (if it's wet). Top it off with Distilled H2O.

If you are near a harbor frieght store they have battery maintainers that keep your charged battery at 13.2 volts. You leave them plugged in all the time. Your battery doesnt cycle it stays at 13.2 and it wont boil your water away. Come back 6mo later take it off the matainer and you are ready to rock and roll. I have 4 of them on my batteries. Catch em on sale for about 10 bucks. Lost about 5 batteries trying to keep them charge till I found these.

Hi,

CTEK chargers are very good. I have one myself (multi 7000). But the cheaper multi 3300 will be fine also.

Link
