Just curious if it is easy to keep bait like herring alive in a livewell. I see guys on the river with big barrels on their boats. It crossed my mind that Herring might need to swim constantly. If this is true could I put rounded corners in the livewell? Also if you can keep herring in there, how many per gallon would you recommend? Thanks in advance for advice.

Herring need a round tank,if you can make your livewell round, yes.Put some corners in there, they work best with thier own kind of water.I use mine for shad,It is 20 gallons and the lake water works out great for me.Good Luck.

Re: Keeping bait in livewell?

Thank you starcraft guy! I actually just bought a boat and cannot wait to get it smelling like fish. The Striper season starts soon here on the Hudson River! My new (used) boat is a Princecraft starfish DLX. I'm soooo excited just registered it today and I will be picking it up this weekend. I'll need to put something in the corners of the livewell. Does anyone have any recommendations of a material to use? Do the corners need to be very rounded or just a small bend in the corner? My live well is 16 gallons I'm afraid it might be a little small and the corners might take up too much space But if you put shad in a 20 then I might have enough space. Any advice helps,
