I have a couple of "bait boxes". I am wondering if any of you have had luck keeping worms and leeches alive and well in these things.........using stuff like buss bedding and food.

Right now I have a couple dozen crawlers in a box with buss bedding, and a couple dozen leeches in a styrofoam bait box with a little bedding, lots of water, and a few tablespoons of leech protien food. Both containers are in the refrigerator.

Re: Keeping bait alive longer.

I have kept crawlers in Buss bedding for as long as 6 months.
A couple years ago I "remembered" the crawlers in the fridge. It was November!! Now what you gonna do with crawlers in the winter?

Have some in the spare fridge now. Set at 50*.
Go through the box every week or so, and remove the dying ones.
Also, if it starts to mold, toss the bedding, rinse off the crawlers and place in new bedding.

Never done the leeches.

Buss Bedding

Its basically peat moss and a bunch of other organic material that can hold more water than its actual weight.

So far........its been a little over a week. The worms are leeches are both nice and big and very lively.

Thanks dakota........it was a lot o fun to do. Might do another over the winter.

The Magic Worm bedding is peat moss.
The Buss Bed-Ding is paper fiber. Its a bit dusty when you mix in the water.
