got a 1995 Nitro bass boat with the custom fitted trailer the came with it. I've had no issues with it since I got it then last weekend when leaving the landing the first time it hit the brakes I lost all my running lights. After some checking and testing I found a blown fuse in my ford f-150. replaced the fuse and the lights worked till I hit the brake pedal. then the same fuse fried again. Tried a different truck and the same thing happened to that trucks fuse...so its gotta be an issue with the trailer. Anyone have any ideas whats happened to my trailer wiring to cause this???

Power wire is shorted out to ground somewhere and every time you hit the brake pedal it energizes the circuit and blows the fuse, first place to check is in the trailer plug that hooks up to the truck to make sure you don't have a stay wire in it, then check the wiring at the lights to make sure there is not a bare wire there. Worst comes to worse you have brake light wire in the trailer frame that has finally wore through the insulation and when you hit the brake pedal is shorts out on the frame.

The only way it happens is it a hot circuit is touching ground somewhere.

Take the brake/tail bulbs out and try it. I have seen bulbs bust when they hit cold water during launch and the filament support wires bend/short against each other. If you don't find one of them busted take them out out anyway and still try it to rule out a shorted bulb....rare but possible.

I've seen the blown bulbs create direct shorts as well. Taking those out a good idea. My first move though, would be a careful inspection of the wiring harness at the front of the trailer. Those seem to get cut/damaged on a regular basis. After that, I'd be suspicious of a harness that's run inside tubing. Rust on the inside will wear the insulation off and cause a short. Usually though, they are more erratic.

And in the future, disconnect the trailer harness before backing in the water.

If you have a swing tongue, open it up and look for a bare wire there.

it turned out to be a wiring issue. someone before I owned it replaced a tail light and pulled the wires out about a foot and did a half ass job of reconnecting the wires. they wrapped the wires together with tape...
