I'm headed south to visit the in-laws for a few days of R&R and hopefully a little fishing. I realize there is a fishing forum, but this is really more a location question than it is a "how to" question. Anybody have any experience with an inshore guide service they like in the Siesta Key/Sarasota area? I am open to kayak, back country, or bay fishing. To further complicate things, my wife and MIL don't fish but do like to go out for a sightseeing cruise now and then. I thought I might see about some sort of combo deal which is why I posted here. Again, any thoughts?

Thanks in advance.

You will find plenty kayak tours there. A couple years ago we used Almost Heaven Kayak Tours in Bradenton. There is also a kayak place on the Manatee River outside of Sarasota at a park...I believe on Rt. 60. Manatee river is my choice, the ICW can be rough at times with large wakes from the boaters.

Good Luck and have fun, I used to live there.

Let me know what you decide or do....dsiekman, I could use your information for a future trip to the "left coast". Many memories there, especially the Manatee River.

Re: Kayak Tour/Fishing in Siesta Key/Sarasota Area

Sasto - We wound up not taking kayaks, but fished from the shore for awhile every day. The winds were pretty gusty and the current was ripping pretty good. We mostly fished the North Bridge, though we also had luck up at a park near the Chart House just outside of St. Armen's Circle. The Spanish Macks were out in force, and we also scored a sheepshead, a trout, a few lady fish, and some garbage fish. I got something that looked like a mix between a bonefish and a catfish. Still haven't been able to identify it and didn't have a camera or my phone with me.

Based on what I found, Economy Tackle in Sarasota seemed to have the best deal on Kayaks. Hope that helps!

Look up whiting and see if this is the fish you caught. Good eating too.

Chart House Restaurant? Good eating too.

Thanks for the info on the kayaks.
