I've noticed a trend on here reading through some post people dont like kayakers on this board.

I started in a yak and still own 3. my bowrider is great family time but my yak is my quiet time it cheaper then golf and i can fish alone time or a buddy and hours of peace and quiet.. lake too busy and getting sick of being buzzed by boats head to that island in the middle of the lake or the shallow inlet....

Some kayaker's do take way to long on the ramps i agree but some boaters try to plow into you while you paddle in..there is room for eveyone

If you love being on the water( i'm sure you do if you are here) then give a yak a chance you may find a second love...

Re: Kayak love

I'm sorry you feel that way and as long as I have been here I have never seen that. Why not send me a reference to the offending posts.

I see you are a recent member so those "anti" posts should be easy for you to locate and then post them here.

Re: Kayak love

Sorry Bob it wasn't one post i wasn't trying to say this board is anti yaks.. I dont want to get anyone in trouble

but I was reading through stupid humen tricks section mostly to see what bugs people at ramps and kayakers seemed to be the biggest offender a long with tubers waiting on the dock...

I was trying to express that sometimes the grass is greener on the otherside.. I love my power boat but my humen power boat is still my go too for quick access on the water as well as some peace and quiet

Re: Kayak love

Well, I feel for the Jet ski people who have have a bad rap since this boards inception, bass boats go too fast, wakeboard boats are too loud with their music. OMC outdrives are bad, 470 motors are bad too.........

It's all about perspective. If we had 100% of the people loving everything .......... we would be bored.

There may be some people who are anti kayak but everyone has a prejudice like and dislike.

Got to agree with Bob_VT, don't know that I have ever seen any negativity towards 'yaks. They are fun and I have used them on several occasions. No problem here.

Could it be that yak(ers) have an attitude like bicyclers?

Re: Kayak love

I don't mind yakkers. They are quiet and don't make big wakes.

Re: Kayak love

There was a post on common sense offenders at ramps a while back, and yes - Jet skis and kayaks were listed amongst the offenders, so were kids swimming on the ramps, people fishing on the ramps, etc.

it wasn't any malice toward yakkers, it was simply true stories about lack of courtesy at the ramps while there was a line of people trying to launch/retrieve.

I am a yakker and I have never seen the need to use a boat ramp to launch....most places I go a boat could never go!

Re: Kayak love

I have two yaks and only launch them from our local beaches... never been near a boat ramp with either of them. They're great fun, I keep out of the busy channels to avoid being mown down by ferrycats AND they keep me in some kind of shape, especially the Hobie which has the Mirage pedal drive system, a sail kit and a paddle. The little yak gets used as a tender for our cuddy cabin "main" boat and is great for really shallow stuff and in small surf.

I have never been Yaking before but I do try to steer clear and give them a wide berth as not to upset the beast, but it does look fun.

Re: Kayak love

Don't do any Yaking, but a big canoer.
I had an issue last year+-?? there was a class being taught around the loading ramp and the load/unload warf, the instructor should have picked the venue a little better than where his students were mingling.
