Hello all,

I recently purchased a 1997 Kawasaki 900 triple with low compression on a couple of cylinders. I plan to rebuild the top end this winter. I'm told that this engine is built by Polaris. Is that true? I found a seller on ebay that has top end kits for a fair price but I want to sure that i get the correct one. I know that I need to order a manual before I start also.

Re: Kawasaki Parts

check with www.sbtontheweb.com for a top end exchange kit and kaw makes their own parts as previously stated.
also see what is wrong with the engine before buying a top end, it may just have a bad head gasket .

Re: Kawasaki Parts

This is probly the wrong place to ask this question but Im new to the site so please have pity on me. I am looking at buying a 2002 kawasaki 900 sts. The engine needs a new piston and cylinder. The engine is already taken apart by the owner so I can see the problem with the piston head, and the cylinder wall, they are scratched up. He is only asking 500 dollars for PWC and trailor. Would buying the cylinder top end kit be a good idea or should I look for something different, the hours on the motor show only 100.
thanks

depends on your familiarity with 2 stroke engines and your capabilities.

I'd say it's worth $500 if the rest of the ski is in good condition. You may spend 2K at the most getting the motor rebuilt (I wouldn't rebuild just one piston), but it would basically be a new ski for $2500 or less. You can also get a little more power out of it than what the stock engine had.
