I just bought a 2008 Caravelle Interceptor 232 in Tom's River New Jersey. Towed it to Knoxville Tn. with my wifes 2012 Kia Sorento. The Kia towed it extremely well even better than expected. Anyone ever tow that far. Biggest issues was all the toll roads. A $4 toll going up was $12 coming back with the trailer. Saw cops everywhere and never recieved a second look. I have a 2004 f350 with a 6.0 but that thing has left me stranded so many times we decided to tow with the Kia.

Re: Just towed 800 miles.

How much is dry weight of "2008 Caravelle Interceptor 232"?

How much is max towing weight of wife's 2012 Kia Sorento?

Did you have aux ATF cooler in the 2012 Kia Sorento?

Did you have brakes (surge or electric) on the boat trailer?

Just wondering...

bought my 28' cruiser in Kingston NY and towed it home 980 miles through a couple of blizzards..... bought another 28' cruiser for parts in Philadelphia and towed it home 930? miles through another blizzard... Bought a third cruiser for parts in Boston and towed it home right at 1000 miles in a little snow but thankfully no blizzard this time sooooooo for 3 round trips about 6000 miles for one boat in the end.......

Yeah I've towed a little bit.... that was all with my over 300,000 mile 99.5 7.3 powerstroke dually.

Sounds to me like an ad for Kia.. And you know what the forum rules say about ads... ;)

Longest tow for me was 3,000km (2,000 miles) a few years back when I did a diving/fishing holiday in the north of W.A.... Was towing with a 4 litre diesel 60 series Landcruiser back then... Still regularly do a 1,100km trip to somewhere a little closer to home. ;) (but I'm towing with a 6.5 Turbo powered 100 series now :D)

My daughter has had one tranny replacement already on their 2012 Sorento and is looking at the second as this is being typed. And they don't tow anything.

I have been towing my 23' Cobia with a 2005 Volvo XC90 2.5t, the Volvo tows it well, better than my F150. My F150 is underpowered with a 302 v8 but it has never left me stranded.

Re: Just towed 800 miles.

Have been making a 1500 mile round trip once a year for 41 years with the same trailer with 8 inch wheels. Except for a bent axle and a set of bad tires on the trailer plus a bad high beam switch on my 1979 Olds, I've never had a problem.

Sounds like a lot with a little.
Can you share the details of both the tow vehicle and the boat ??

What are they doing to them? I know a couple people with sorrento's and no transmission (or any other) issues. Checking out the various review sites, they are across the board green for reliability.

(I've got a borrego, the sorrento's bigger brother. About the only time that leaves the garage is with something behind it, and no probs so far.)

x2

My wifes 03 Sorrento was a beast, never had a bit of trouble with it and it towed like a champ.

Re: Just towed 800 miles.

That Caravelle is a surprisingly light 3500 dry with the 300hp V8 but got to imagine it's at least 1500lbs more with trailer and gear. As for towing, haven't had the need to tow that far in MN yet. Maybe someday we'll tow up towards Canada. I find myself checking out the new Kia and Hyundais on the road thinking how well put together they look.

I had to look that vehicle up...

"2008 Kia Sorento Overview"

"...The Kia Sorento is ..... built like a truck, with a separate truck-style frame....."

I did not know it was truck based, sounds like you had a really good trip with it :)
