My Yamaha 130 has just got me through another season, and its been as dependable as its reputation makes it. Aside from the seasonal maintanace, is there anything I may need to repair/change/look into? I know that the impeller is up for change as I passed the 200 hr. mark. Should I be concerned about carbon buildup at this point? Would a good "Seafoam" treatment be in order at this point? Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Hello
yes its due for a pump kit, pressure relief valve grommet and t-stats. if its oil injected its time to change the remote tank filter and clean the strainer and engine tank. if you remove the stainer from the engine tank make sure you plave the vent hole in the strainer so it is over the flat on the sensor assy. and use a new seal and make sure you retrieve the old seal. clean the engine fuel strainer. I would reccommend a fuel pump rebuild as well. they die sometimes and can cause a lack of luberication failure. a decarb would not hurt a set of plugs after the decarb.spray the trim sender with fluid film spray the power head with fluid film. retorque the cyl heads.
change the gear lube and inspect everyting from top to bottom. remove the prop and service the prop shaft.
keep up with the maintenence and that 130 will go a long time. by the way. I have noticed a lot of the white plastic clips on the oil pump lever cracking in two lately. you may want to carry a spare.
Good luck and keep posting

Hope you dont' mind me jumping in here ... Rodbolt - I have a '98 115 inshore model w/low water pick-up ... is there anything unusual/unique to replacing this water pump? Also, I've seen differing numbers on retorqing the heads - should i just use the Clymer numbers?

Also, do you know of any online sources to order Yammy parts below retail?

Thx!

Hello
spete I really dont domuch parts. I twist wrenches 7 days a week :) . on a 98 model you need tomake sure that the original water pump has been removed. we have had a terrible time with the original pumps in 97 and 98. no one will admit it but when the changed to a white plastic impeller hub it would not stay bonded to the rubber. after 98 they all were black once more. I dont know of anything special about the yamaha with low water pick up that is differnt from the standard as far as removal of the case is concerned>
good luck and keep posting

Thansk RB ... I know that it's been over 2 years and possibly longer since the impeller has been replaced and I plan on doing the change sometime after this weekend. Momma is due with our 1st at the end of November so I should have a lot of time close to home for boat maintenence. I will e-mail you when I get closer to actually pulling lower for some specifics. On an unrelated topic, I've noticed some salt creep on the gaskets around the powerhead ... I've given the motor inside a light spray of CorosionX and i wonder if that will keep the gaskets from deteriorating or if those will need to be replaced soon too?

Thx - spete

If I were you, I would find the nearest dealer and pay them lots of money to do a 200 hr. service. They got to eat too. HAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAHHAH

:D

hbello
gotta agree withy Thom> I need the xmas cash :) :) , nah just keep it sprayed and the head gaskets will go a long long time. just retorque them once a year or so. mostly to make sure the bolts dont seieze up. to retorque a bolt you really need to loosen it then draw it back down. I like to remove the bolt and grease it then reinstall it, good luck with the new one. hahahaah after 2 I think boats are not only cheaper than kids but less trouble :) :)
