But it's not a Starcraft  In shopping for an aluminum boat, preferably Starcraft I ran across a "deal" on a Crestliner Sportfish 1750. I say "deal" because it will prove out to be a great deal (imo) or prove me an idiot. Only time will tell.

To summarize, it has been sitting (under a full snap on cover) for four years with a seized engine ('97 Johnson 115). I have an older 120 Merc I can mount up courtesy of my brother in-laws glass boat fiasco (rotting floor/transom, etc.) Before going that route I will look into rebuilding the Johnson as overall it's a nice set up with hydraulic steering, power tilt and all. First thing I will order up the shop manual for the Johnson.

If you read this far and are wondering why I posted in the Starcraft forum, well, like I said I anticipated buying a Starcraft for a few reasons. One primary reason is the activity and knowledge available on this forum. Two, I grew up with a Starcraft fishing boat that lives to this day. You guys have a good thing here. Lastly, I will post up picks when I get a chance to take some in some daylight as it just came home last night.

You can always put a bumper sticker on the tow vehicle that proclaims" my boat wishes it was a Starcraft";) Goodluck with the new boat!

Crestliners are quality boats...I know some folks here in Michigan that swear they are the best tin boats around. Congrats on the purchase!

We can hook you up with some Starcraft decals after you strip off the Crestliner logos:D

Will be looking for the pics:)

I think it's acceptable :) I'll be honest....I was looking for an 18' open bow aluminum boat. If that happened to be a Starcraft then great! But if I had found a Sylvan, Smokercraft, Crestliner, Sea Nymph, Blue Fin, etc. well then so be it. Good luck with it. I just started tearing out my old floor last night on mine.

As long as you pay the "out of make dues" you will be admitted and properly initiated as a Starcraft fanatic.

Actually Article 8, sub section 3A states.

"When requesting consideration into the SC Club with any boat not badged STARCRAFT, then OUT OF PLAN rates apply that are rated at 10.5 times the overall length rounded up to the next foot of the vessel in question"

Let's see, 17'1" rounded up to 18 X 10.5=189 X $0 (dues for members)=$0. After your check clears you will be a bona fide SC club member. :D:D

Welcome.

CheapboatKev;you are absolutely correct,.Foolishly I was trying to minimize and trivialize the process of admission to this lowly pledge solely to enrich the coffers of the Starcraft treasury (actually to maximize the amount of beer on hand at Tinstock). I hereby retract any and all previously previously uttered statements and from this point forward defer to the exalted officers of the orginazation. So help me Starcraft. Respectfully, ed golden

Re: Just bought a boat

You guys crack me up. I will happily write a check for whatever amount... seeing how I have an old check book laying around from when I lived in California (acct. long since closed) ;)

Pics will have to wait for the weekend as I am currently up in Minneapolis on business. The weather is actually nicer up here than it was in Ann Arbor when I left early this morning. Back to work for me now.
