Hey guys, I'm new the board but I just picked up a 76 Sea Ray SRV195. Boat is in immaculate shape for the year. One owner boat, always stored inside, and picked it up for $1200 so figured I couldn't go wrong. Boat has the Mercruiser 188 with the Ford 302. Just have a few questions/looking for advice. This is my first I/O, but I have had several smaller fishing boats with outboards. My first question is how reliable is this engine/outdrive set-up as a general rule? Mine seems to have been well maintained...I'm a Chevy guy so I know nothing about these Ford engines  Is there anything I should keep a close eye on (common problems, etc.)? I have yet to take it out on the water, but it didn't seem to have any strange noises when I ran it in the driveway on the hose. Any idea what kinda speed this thing will do? Now I know this isn't really a fishing boat, but I would like to do some walleye fishing out if it if possible. Have any of you guys rigged it up for some rod holders? I was thinking about putting a rod/bar across the back, or maybe even just screwing them to the teak railing. Any help/insight would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Nothing wrong with that setup. The Ford 302 is a workhorse and is used in many marine applications. Same with the outdrive. If it's lived in salt or brackish water rig, I'd be concerned about the cooling system due to it's age.
I have a '69 SRV190 with a Chevy 4.3 and OMC Cobra - she does about 34 mph WOT. You should expect a little better. The old Searays are built like tanks. Good choice!
I haven't had any major issues with mine. I've had her for about a dozen or so. But it had been repowered, new outdrive and rewired.
