I don't really agree with killing an animal like that for sport. There's a very high death rate when a shark is pulled out of the water.
There's no skill in catching a shark. Wearing a stand up rig is stupid. Ask what happens if it makes a run and the drag locks and there are lots of much larger hammers there. And yea I was born here and seen this over and over again.

I'm vegetarian so I don't believe in killing an animal for anything, particularly sport. The article and vid also show he released it. Oh, and there's some skill in catching a shark albeit with a certain lack of finesse. Besides, there's no way of knowing what's going to take the bait on the other end line. It could've just as easily been a ray, cobia, or tarpon. The drag can lock on any reel and yank you out of a boat into a prop. Tons of Marlin fisherman taking the plunge in vidsonline. Being onshore actually gives a slightly better chance than getting yanked clean into +500' of blue water with what amounts to the Ferrari of the fish world on the other end of the line. If it should happen simply cut the line (with the knife/pliers any good fisherman has on their hip at all times, of course) and you both live to fight another day as it should be. Oh, and I grew up around them too. Bigger than this little guy at that ;) I just wanted scare the tourists and Yanks a bit.

Yeah. I am with you. I wouldn't catch the thing unless I was going to cut it up and eat it!

Hammerhead is actually pretty good!

they don't always die right away. A hammerhead is not a fish you have to worry about much. A bull is a whole nother story. We had a 'tourist" who was wade fishing. He came in the little country store in Aripeka when I was living there. The definition of pale-face. There had been a bull hanging around for a week and guess who he found. Swore he would never go in the water again.

I think about throwing the mullet net in waste deep water at night on a sand bar where it dropped off to 10 ft a 100 yards from shore. I did have a small blacktip my brother had hooked wrap around me but we had on waders. Once had a huge dolphin go between us a night. Man we were nuts.
