Hi, my name is Mike but ya'll can call me Mowgli. I've had what I believe is a 1958ish? Starcraft closed bow outboard for a few years now and it's about the time that I want to start some lite resto work and figured I'd ask around on some forums for advise. I'll post some pics in a day or two to help with any questions I can come up with. But I guess my first and most important one is just how do I figure out what year she is for sure? I've looked at the Vin plate but I can't make heads or tails of it and the only clue as of year is the earliest registration sticker under a massive stack was from 1958. Thanks in advance.

VINs did not start being issued on boats until 1972. If you have the original Startcraft id on the plate perhaps someone on here can decipher it from the serial number.

Did you get a title with it?
Is it registered with the state?
My 67 StarCraft hasn't an HIN, but it has a title specifying the year, and it's registered with the state.

Welcome aboard.
One of the best ways for us to help is with photos of your boat.

Have a title/registration but it doesn't have the year listed.

Oh, good to know I was not aware that they didn't issue vins till then. I'll get a pic of the serial number when I have a chance.

I might be wrong, but think it's the HIN that started to be assigned to boats starting in 1972. Not VIN.

Just a quick pic of my boat in question. Can't seem to find any of my other pics and as you can probably tell she's still in winter storage so it's kind of difficult to get better shots.

What State is MC?
I'm guessing Michigan.

Tried to reply and show the eleven states where the USCG and USPS abbreviations don't match. It didn't come out quite right, just move the state heading one space to the right. Could not figure out to correct it after I posted.

Welcome! Nice rig!

this looks like ~ 1962 18' Holiday; dimensions are listed if you'd like to verify.

Judging by the brochures, in '61 the 18' Holiday didn't have the side rubrail (or maybe it's there...just difficult to see in the pictures). The deadrise looks different as well however.

Thank you. She has an old registration sticker from 1958 still attached that was under a stack of old ones. Found it when I pulled the stack off to prep for a little bit of touch up painting. Didn't think to cover it with a clear sticker until I had already put the new one over it sadly though. Was the Holiday around then?

She also measures a little over 19' tip to tail and has a hatch on the enclosed section about 8-10" from the windshield

Oh and speaking of windshields, it leads me to my next question. Can anyone point to where I could find a replacement? Mine is weather checked so badly I have to look over it so see where I'm going if there is any sun shining on it. A friend of mine knows of a place I can send my old one to and they will custom mold one to the frame but the cost plus the shipping is a little steep.
