1970 40hp johnson, i have a couple quick questions. Motor has been sitting for 7 years, no spark on top cylinder i changed plugs its not that, what should i do next?
swap the 2 coils, see if you have spark top now, and no spark on bottom. then you know you have a bad coil. lets us know. also check compression while you are at it.
In my opinion it's not even worth the test to swap coils. If you're going to the trouble of pulling the flywheel then I'd replace both coils unless it's already been done. They're cheap and die with age and then you will have a much more reliable engine.
yep. and as said i would just change both, clean and reset the points, replace the plug wires. you need a harmonic balancer puller, and grade #8 harden bolts to pull the flywheel.
