Re: Jon boat trailer Build

I made a trailer for my 1436 john boat.

I bought a $150 Harbor Freight trailer kit (on sale + 20% off coupon) and replaced the tongue with a 20' stick of 2.5 x 2.5 square steel tube. Once I figured out how long I needed the trailer I chopped off the tongue, welded on piece of the left over tongue for a winch post, bolted on a winch and bow stop, painted it with white Rustoleum, added a couple bunks and a spare tire and was done for about $350.

HF sells a boat trailer kit for $325 that might work for you. I wanted 12" tires and by the time I added everything I wanted, building one made more sense than buying the boat trailer kit.

The home made trailer is working nice, only thing I changed on it was the crappy lights that came with the kit, swapped them out with HF LED lights that have been working well for the past year or so.

Check CL occasionally while you're at it. You might find what you need cheap.
