I plan to buy a new (or used) Jon boat and they come blunt nosed or modofied "V".
What is the advantage to the modified "V"?

A modified V isn't a jon boat, its a modified or Semi-V.

Better in light chop then a jon

My 1870 MV Xpress is a Jon boat, has a bit of a V shape up front ,tapering back to mostly flat in the back (5 degree dead rise at transom)….this slight V shape just gives it a better ride in rougher water…..better but not really good….A flat bottom Jon boat is very stable but not a good ride in choppy water…

I'm just using the Lowe Boat site and find a listing for a 1448M (modified) Jon Boat (their terminology). But, thank you for the info. I sorta thought they would tend to "plow" less water and wondered about any other pros and cons on them. Guess the "V" is worth the extra cost then. Thank you

The flat bottom John is the most stable when moving around. The flat bottom is ideal for river fishing or small lakes. They ride rough in a chop and are noisy when waves slap the hull. They plane out nicely with small engiens. The semi-V aluminum hulls, whatever the mfgr. chooses to call them, that are popular aren't all that much improved over the flat botom. BTDT on both counts more than once.
