Johnson60hp lower unit

I need to change the water pump on our 60hp Johnson Motor..How do I disconnect the transmission gear selector rod to enable me to remove the lower unit.

HERES WHAT YOU DO ON THE STARBOARD SIDE OF ENGINE LOOK AT SHIFT ARM DOWN BY LOWER ENGINE COWL THERE IS CLIP PIN REMOVE CLIP AND PUSH ARM IN AND THIS WILL DISCONNECT SHIFT SHAFT

mercman, thank you so much for the info.....<br />After hrs of brain storming with hubby as a last resort pulled that pin and it all came loose....Boat has been idle for about 5 yrs and we just wanted to check the water pump to make sure we wouldn't have any trouble when we put it in the water.....Hubby retired 6/01/00 and we're getting ready to hit the H2o for lots of fun and relaxation..thanks again.....
