Year 2000 johnson 50 (J50PLSSM)with VRO that is a new motor to me. I'm used to mixing 50:1 by hand. Are there benefits to staying with the VRO in terms of motor life span,or is it just a convenience thing. If I stay with mixing my own, how do I modify the motor to disable the VRO function.
If i stay with the VRO (not included with my new motor)what do I need to look for when buying one that will work with J50PLSSM model.

Thanks!!

Re: johnson w/ VRO

According to the parts manual, the engine should have come with VRO....are you saying that it isn't equipped with VRO? Kind of hard to determine from your post.

If it doesn't have the pump, a new one will set you back $280 plus the new fuel line you will need. (I could mix a LOT of gas for that).

If the engine does have the pump, keep it. Make sure the alarms work and it will serve you well.

Re: johnson w/ VRO

Sorry 'bout the confusion...what I meant to say was I don't have the oil tank and wiring harness. I posted a second time about a particular oil tank and harness, and my question has been answered. Thanks again guys!
