Johnson V4 overheating

My friend has a 1994 Johnson 90 hp v4. It starts up fine with the telltale pissing water. Within 5 minutes of it running the overheat alarms go off. We pulled the thermostats and realized that the chambers where the thermostats are were bone dry. we pulled the foot to inspect the water pickup tube and it is fine . We even connected a garden hose to the pickup tube to see if we could get water up there and all we got was the telltale pissing water. Any ideas where to start looking before we tear this thing open. Any help would be appreciated.

Water from the telltale does NOT circulate through the engine.------There is internal blockage I think.----Look into pieces called " water diverter " there are 4 of them.----Cylinder head must come off to inspect.

Here is the Flow Pattern. Your engine doesn't have the Bubbleback Exhaust cover, but the Flatback flows the same way. You might have a Blockage in there
